Court records

Dekerivers over at Caffeinated Politics made my posting today very easy. I’ve been thinking a lot about the recent proposed Assembly Bill 418, related to the restriction of public access to CCAP. CCAP provides an exact copy of the case information entered into the … case management system”. Basically, you can use this website to look up people and see if they have any history with the Wisconsin courts. I have a lot to say about the rights we all have to be able to access that information, but Caffeinated Politics did it already (and probably better than I would have said it!) here: Wisconsin Online Court Records Should Remain Open To Public.

My favorite line of theirs:

Only those who think the public is irresponsible thought CCAP needed to be limited in who had access to the records.

Heh. Thanks for saying what we were all thinking!

Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate them. This is an important issue to fight for.
